A massive rally was organised in Kathmandu on Saturday demanding justice for 13-year-old Nirmala Panta who was raped and murdered in Mahendrangar, Kanchanpur. The rally which was organised under the citizens’ initiative ‘Justice for Nirmala’ was started from Maitighar Mandala and converged into a corner assembly at New Baneshwor.
Thousands of people from various walks of life participated in the rally. Body of Nirmala was found in a sugarcane field in Bhimdutta Municipality of Kanchanpur on July 27, a day after she was reported missing. Postmortem report showed the teenager had been raped and strangulated to death.
The police administration has not yet been able to nab the culprit(s) even though 50 days have passed after the heinous crime.
